In the days long past, the work was physical and very hard, and to ease muscular tension after a hard days toil, a method of massage called aowmarn was practiced and passed on by the local doctors. Marn is northern Thai dialect for a Burmese person, while the technique is based on the balance of blood and air. This massage is only suitable for strong, healthy body and focuses on the flexing of ligaments. The therapy does not take as long as a typical massage, yet yields excellent results in curing paresis, paralysis and the stresses and strains resulting from hard work.
